Pioneering technologies like this improve the life span of vehicles and accelerate the transition to more hybrid engines in road cars.”
In hybrid vehicles, the internal combustion engine (ICE) and the electric motor work together to maximize efficiency and performance while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. In this particular hardware set up, especially in urban use, there is a continuous switch between the ICE and the electric motor; resulting in 10 times more start/stop function of the engine as compared to a standard car. As a result, ICE operates for shorter periods resulting in oil temperatures of an average 40°C lower as compared to standard cars. This subsequently leads to unique challenges – faster oil degradation, increased risk of wear and critical components failure, corrosion, water accumulation and loss of performance.
